We are a design store that is all about bringing personality & colour to your place, so you love the everyday moments at home -  the cushions on your couch, coffee from a great mug, a cool gift for a friend.

We’re famous for our incredible cushion collection, but our beautiful store is also full of amazing gifts & homewares from brands including Marimekko, Orla Kiely, Iitalla, Designers Guild, Moma, Menu, Jonathan Adler, Jones & Co, Eva Solo, Lexon & so much more.

Our Story 

 

Hi, I’m Suz and I started Bolt of Cloth in 2009.  I’m a big traveller but I LOVE being  home – and I like to make the feeling of home for myself wherever I am.  Home for me is a vibe – it’s where you feel most comfortable and can just be yourself, unjudged.  For me, that’s not beige and it’s definitely not a show home (my family is too messy:)

 

 

Bolt of Cloth has always been about personality and colour – two things that make me feel happy at home.  The initial concept was to stock amazing fabrics and make anything our customers wanted to personalise their homes (curtains, blinds, cushions, squabs, lampshades etc).  Hence the name Bolt of Cloth!  At our first store our sewing team actually sat on the shop floor.  This store was destroyed in the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes requiring us to start again from scratch.

 

The making concept didn’t take off, but our bright and colourful cushions, gifts and homewares did – and we have steadily expanded in this direction ever since.  We work with like-minded brands from NZ and abroad and make our own brand in our workroom here in Christchurch.  We care about how our products look and how they are made. We are constantly on the hunt across Aotearoa and internationally for new additions to our unique range of cushions, homewares and gifts.

 

Our Christchurch store, workroom and warehouse are all based at The Tannery in Woolston, Christchurch. We are trying to create a business that is a fun place to work and a great place to shop.
