How to Choose and Style Cushions

Nothing brings colour and personality to a living room like awesome cushions. Follow our tips to get the perfect collection for your place.

  1. Start with a Cushion you Love

Don’t overthink this – just choose one cushion you are drawn to and use this as your starting point. Ideally it is a patterned cushion, as this then acts as the eye catching accent in your space.

You may already have a favourite cushion – if not browse our range here.

  1. Add More Cushions

There are 3 easy ways to do this:

  • Add plain cushions in colours that are in your cushion
  • Add plain cushions in colours that are opposite to the colours in your cushion
  • Add more patterned cushions.

  • Add plain cushions in colours that are in your cushion

This is the safest and easiest way to build up your cushions.  The colours don’t need to be an exact colour match, but should be similar in tone. If you want to stay only with plains, make sure they are of different textures such as velvet and are not the same colour as your couch.

  • Add plain cushions in colours that are opposite to the colours in your cushion

Some of the best combinations work just because they are not what you expect.  Try adding a pink with green, or an orange with blues. This tip means it is almost impossible to go wrong!

  • Add more patterned cushions.

The two ways to do this are:

  • Adding Spots or Stripes

  • Adding more Pattern.     This could be by repeating the cushion you already have or, it could be trying the same pattern in a different scale – like a larger or smaller version. Another way to add pattern is to mix up different types of pattern – such as mixing Florals with Geometrics.

  1. Add some Finishing Touches

Nothing makes us want to cosy up on a couch more than a throw or a sheepskin.

Last Tips:

  • Your cushions can be a mix of fabrics – mixing velvet, cotton &  wool cushions will bring your look to life.
  • Be bold  - you don't want your cushions to blend into your couch.
  • Upgrade to feather inners if you can.  They make your cushions look great and they are really comfortable.
  • Have fun.  Cushions are an awesome way to bring some personality to your place.  And if they are not perfect you can send them back:)
