2. How do I choose cushions for my sofa?

Start with the colours already in your room, but don’t feel that every cushion needs to match. A combination of different patterns, textures and sizes usually creates a more interesting look. An easy formula is one patterned cushion you love, then one or two plains in a matching colourway. Or start with our Couch Ready Combos, sets of three that already go together.

3. Can you help me choose cushions for my couch?

Yes. For a quick question, call or email us and we’ll put a few options together and send you photos.

For more help, try our Couch Makeover service. For $20, we send you a short survey about your styling preferences and ask you to upload photos of your couch and room. Our team then puts together two different cushion looks tailored to your space. You can give us feedback and we’ll make revisions based on what you like. With 30-day returns, there’s no risk in trying options at home.

4. What size cushion covers should I choose?

Using more than one cushion size can make a sofa or bed look more considered. Larger cushions work well at the back, with smaller square or rectangular cushions layered in front. If you already have cushion inners at home, check their dimensions before ordering a new cover, as even similarly shaped cushions can come in different sizes. You can browse our cushions by size.

5. Do your cushion covers come with cushion inners?

You can buy our cushion covers with or without an inner. If you buy an inner with your cushion cover, you’ll get 20% off the inner. We offer high-quality feather cushion inners for a soft, full look, as well as recycled PET cushion inners, which are a great option for outdoor cushions or for people who prefer a non-feather inner due to allergies. Simply choose your preferred inner when ordering your cushion cover. Each cushion shows you the correct size to buy.

6. How do I mix cushion colours and patterns?

Your cushions don’t all need to match. Mixing different patterns often creates a much more interesting room. Look for a common thread, such as a colour that appears in several cushions, and then vary the scale of the patterns. A bold floral or geometric print can work beautifully alongside a smaller pattern, stripe or textured plain. 7. Are Bolt of Cloth cushion covers made in New Zealand?

Our own Bolt of Cloth cushion covers are made in-house in Christchurch. We’ve been making cushion covers since Bolt of Cloth began in 2009, using carefully selected fabrics to create our own collection alongside the international brands we stock.

8. Do you sell designer cushion covers?

Yes. We source design-led cushion covers from distinctive brands and designers in New Zealand and overseas, including Marimekko, Fine Little Day and Orla Kiely. We look for good design, quality materials and interesting colour, pattern and texture, rather than stocking the same cushions you’ll find everywhere.
